8 Things to Know Before Boarding your Pet

Here at Club Pet International, we know how stressful getting ready for your vacation is. We also know the added stress of boarding your furbaby. We have put together some helpful information to keep in mind when getting ready to bring your pet for their vacation stay at our boarding facility in the Chantilly and South Riding area.

1. Set up a time to visit the kennel

We love giving our new pet parents tours of our boarding facility. You want to make sure you do this ahead of time. If you wait until the last minute, chances are you will be running late and won’t have the time to do the tour. We know how important your pets are to you and we want to ensure you have peace of mind while your pet is being pampered here at Club Pet.

2. Ensure you pet is up to date on their vaccinations

Bring your most recent certificate with you. Do not fret If your pet is not up to date on their vaccines, we are here to help. Here at Club Pet International, we can administer the vaccines and ensure you are up to date (check out our Veterinary Services Page for more details).

3. Make sure the kennel staff is aware of any specials needs

At Club Pet International, we know that not all animals are the same. We know that some dogs can be scared of thunder, some cats may be timid to new people, mature pets need special attention, some of our furbabies are on medication.  Whatever your situation is let us know all of the details when you check in and we will ensure your pet is attended to properly.

4. Ask the kennel what to bring

We encourage you to bring in toys/personal items or special treats.  This will help make your furbaby feel more at home. We have a policy where we do not allow blankets, as we provide blankets and bedding for your stay. Make sure you don’t bring the whole basket of toys, a few special/favorite items will keep your pet entertained for their stay. Club Pet does not assume responsibility for lost or damaged articles brought from home.

5. Make the departure quick

There is no sense in making the goodbye more stressful than it already can be. Try not to have tears or guilty feelings, this may cause your pet to feel anxious or fearful that you are abandoning them. If you are calm, your pet will be calm. Remember that they are going to have as much fun on their vacation as you are (maybe even more)! Tell your pet you will see them soon and to have fun.

6. Expect your pet to come home tired

It is natural for your pet to be tired after their stay. They were playing with and watching all of the other dogs at the kennel.  There is a good chance they were too busy and forgot to nap as often as they do at home.  Don’t stress over this, it is normal and they will catch up on sleep as soon as they're home.

7. Feel Free to call and check in

We want our pet parents to feel good about their boarding experience at Club Pet. Feel free to call occasionally to check in on your Furbaby. We love your pet as much as you and we enjoy pampering them, so calling us is not necessary. However, some people like that extra conversation and check in, so please feel free to call us.

8. Thank the kennel after your experience

Did you pet have a great stay? Are you happy with your experience? Leave the boarding facility a review online letting other perspective boarders know about your experience. Reviews are a great way to let us at Club Pet know you are happy and let more people know about our facility.
